The Ultimate List of Bridesmaid Proposal Ideas

September 30, 2016

Happy Friday!

I have recently been asked for suggestions by our SB brides on how to pop the big question to their bridesmaids. Asking your bridesmaids can be just as fun and exciting as getting engaged, and let’s be honest- coming up with fun and creative ideas is only half the fun! Whether you are planning on gathering your girls together for a fun gift-giving party or you want to deliver them individually, the creativity and surprise that you put in is what will really makes the experience unforgettable. So to help you out (we all know you have a MILLION other things to plan), I have compiled a list of some of my favorite fun and creative ways to ask your bridesmaids to be a part of your big day! Happy reading 🙂

15 bridesmaid proposal ideas that your bridesmaids will LOVE.

  1. Give your girls a scratch off card that is seriously too cute for words! You can even write a personal message for each of your soon-to-be ‘maids to reveal.

2. A personalized box is a great way to incorporate all of your little goodies into one fun package. Include items like a card, color palette ideas, inspiration for what you want them to wear, important dates, etc. The options are endless!

3. A custom crossword puzzle is fun, unique, and makes your ‘maids work for their surprise! Perfect for your puzzle-loving friend.

4. Let’s face it, there’s a little Bridezilla in all of us. Show off your funny (and honest!) side by gifting this fun card that is sure to bring a smile to your ‘maid’s faces.

5. We’re drooling at the sight of these fancy bridesmaid cookies.

6. Bring your bestie a cup of coffee and slap this label to pop the big question. She’ll be surprised, happy, and caffeinated - the perfect combination for a fun celebration!

7. Propose with this charming muslin bag that’s perfectly rustic chic! Personalize their bag by adding in a fun little bonus like nail polish, candies, coffee, or whatever you think they might enjoy!

8. You’re friends will be filled with curiosity while they’re attempting to figure out the hidden message on this pretty, custom jigsaw puzzle. Imagine their amazement once they finally put it together!

9. Place one of these glamorous labels onto a tasty bottle of wine and not only does it become a creative way to ask your bridesmaids, but it’s a great way to celebrate together once they’ve said “yes!”

10. Dainty necklaces are totally trending so why not gift your girls with a chic, circular necklace that they can wear over and over again? We’d definitely be excited if we were given something this cute!

11. These push-up confetti poppers will have you and your friends laughing and cheering “hell yeah!” out of excitement. Not to mention, they just look like a ton of fun!

12. These dreamy candles are a gorgeous piece for your ‘maids to enjoy in the comfort of their homes. With the soft smells and rustic look, it’s a great gift to surprise them with!

13. Especially perfect for those passionate wine lovers (you know who you are!), this simple cork unravels an unsuspecting message for your friends to discover.

14. How fun would it be to get your girls together, pour a round of drinks, and let them find the personalized message written on the side of these shot glasses? Sounds like a party to me!

15. This proposal idea seriously could not be more fun! Ask your ‘maids to join your wedding day by having them pop this confetti-filled balloon with a secret question inside.

10 Things to Know Before You Go Wedding Dress Shopping

10 Things to Know Before You Go Wedding Dress Shopping

wedding-dress-shopping-blunders

Shopping for a bridal gown can be an intimidating and stressful process. Don’t fret! That is what I am here for, and I hope you find these blog posts helpful. I have compiled 10 things to know before you go wedding dress shopping to help not only ease you into the process, but to give you insight before you dive right in. Enjoy!

You should limit your entourage

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again — bringing a big group to the salon is a gown shopping don’t! Enlist one or two of your closest pals to help you start your search. This way you can find the gown of your dreams and not feel pressured by others’ opinions.

Hidden costs add up

Remember, your wedding gown budget doesn’t just include the dress. Your veil or headpiece and alterations will also add to your bottom line. Be sure to factor in these costs before you give the salesperson your final gown-shopping budget.

Undergarments are optional

Before you head into your appointment sans underwear and claim we said it was okay, read this: If you have a favorite strapless style or plan on wearing a particular body shaper, go ahead and bring it. You’ll ultimately need your gown-specific undergarments for your first fitting but not your initial appointment.

Salons take requests (really!)

Just because a bridal salon carries your favorite designer, that doesn’t mean it’ll have the exact wedding dress you’ve been dying to try on. If you phone in advance and request a specific style, chances are that a salon staffer will able to call for a sample of that gown especially for you.

You shouldn’t get discouraged

There are hundreds of bridal designers out there with literally thousands of designs – which makes the odds of your finding a fantastic gown, well pretty darn good. We know that coming up empty handed on your first trip can be a letdown, but don’t give up. You will find “the one.”

Shop for the body you have now

No matter what your shape, knowing your body shape – pear, full, thin, petite – is the first step in finding the right dress. Even if you’re planning on dropping 15 pounds before your wedding, your frame isn’t going to completely change because you’ve swapped cookies for carrots.

Always book an appointment

While you may get lucky and snag a salesperson just by walking in, scheduling an appointment is the only way to ensure that you’ll get a full hour of undivided attention.

It’s okay to pick favorites

To help guarantee that your gown shopping experience goes smoothly, ask a salon staffer when you call to book your appointment if she can suggest a favorite saleswoman. Or get recommendations from friends, and request a saleswoman by name.

Skip day one of any sample sale

We know you’re tempted to get there as soon as the doors open, but shopping on the first day of a sample sale can be downright messy. Do yourself a favor and call ahead to ask how many days the sale will run. Then go on one of the later dates.

Plan on playing hooky

Sneaking away from work will allow you to hit the stores while crowds are at a minimum. You’ll get more attention from the sales staff if you shop on a Tuesday morning rather than a Saturday afternoon. There will also be less people hogging the mirrors (hey, a little vanity is allowed)!

Wedding Dress 101 with Signature Bridal

Wedding gown shopping – oh, where to begin! For starters, as a bride, you should aim to look like the absolute best version of yourself on your wedding day. And aside from your beaming smile and bridal glow, your dress will be front and center. We all have different body types, which is why it’s so important to begin the wedding dress shopping process by understanding the different gown silhouettes — and for which body types they work best. Here’s a quick and easy guide to breakdown the various wedding gown silhouettes!

Ballgown: The “fairy tale” dress, with a fitted bodice, flairs at the waist with a full skirt. Ideal for most body types but looks great on pears, since it hides the lower body. Not good for petites; the skirt can be overwhelming on a small frame.

A-Line: Fitted bodice through the waist and flows out to the ground, resembling the outline of an uppercase “A.” Ideal for all body types.

Modified A-Line: Fitted on the bodice and hips and gradually flares to the hem, forming an “A” shape. The skirt of a modified A-line dress fits closer to the body than a traditional A-line. Ideal for all body types.

Trumpet: Fitted through the body and flairs mid-thigh. The cut is between a modified a-line and a mermaid cut. Ideal for frames with small waists, such as the hourglass, banana, and petites. Not good for pears and apples, as it accentuates stomach and hip area.

Mermaid: Fitted on the body from the chest to the knee, then flares out close to the knee. Ideal for slender frames and hourglass body types who are willing to show off their curves. Not good for apples and plus size body types.

Sheath: Narrow shape that flows straight down from the neckline to the hem. Ideal for lean frames, such as petites and bananas. Also good on hourglasses who are willing to show off their curves. Not good for pears; sheaths will accentuate extra inches and can be unflattering.

Tea-Length: Skirt falls in between the ankle and the knee. Ideal for all body types.

Summer Wedding Inspiration

May 4, 2016

There is a reason that summer is the most popular season for weddings. Beautiful warm weather and bountiful blooms are the ultimate expression of new beginnings. If you’re planning a summer wedding celebration, take advantage of all the season has to offer with the following summer wedding inspirations.

Summer Wedding Invitations
We love the idea of summer wedding invitations with watercolor accents. They’re romantic, elegant and whimsical – the perfect feelings a summer wedding is meant to evoke.

Jose Villa Photography

Summer Bridal Bouquets
If you haven’t yet read last May’s post about summer bridal bouquets, check it out. Among the myriad of blessings that go hand-in-hand with a summer wedding, fresh, fragrant flowers is a favorite.

Barbara Rahal Photography

Summer Dessert Bars
You scream. I scream. We all scream for ice cream! A summer wedding is the perfect setting to treat guests to an ice cream social.

Society Bride

Summer Groomswear
Consider lighter alternatives to the tux for an outdoor summer wedding. A nice linen or linen-cotton blend will keep your groom dapper (and cool) under the hot summer sun.

Katie Stoops Photography

Summer Appetizers
Start the party off right with a cheese and charcuterie spread. Add delicious dried fruits, nuts, pickles and olives for color and taste.

Aster and Olive Photo

Summer Drinks
This coconut mango mojito is refreshingly appropriate for a summer’s day soiree. You’ll need fresh mint leaves, mint simple syrup, coconut rum, club soda, mango puree and lime juice. Photo and recipe from How Sweet Eats.

Summer Wedding Cake
When it comes to summer wedding cakes, you’ll want to avoid the heaviness of whipped cream, fondant and cream cheese frostings – especially for daytime outdoor summer weddings. Your best bet? Buttercream. Or, consider a naked cake with fresh fruits.

Tips For Your Wedding Dress Fitting

April 29, 2016

We LOVE this informational piece by Pretty. Happy. Love!

Congratulations! There is nothing more exciting than the moment when you have found the wedding dress of your dreams. The next best thing is working with your seamstress until it fits you perfectly. You may be surprised to find out there is more to wedding dress fittings than just showing up and trying it on. Follow our tips to make sure you get the most out of your experience.

Eat. You might think skipping lunch will help make the dress feel just right, but the last thing you (or your tailor!) want is a fainting bride-to-be.

Bring your shoes. If you’ve already purchased the shoes you are going to wear for your big day, make sure to bring them along to the fitting. Doing so will ensure that the alterations will be precisely the length you want, depending on your heel height. If you plan on switching shoes for the reception, make sure to bring those along as well.

Do your hair. That way, you can get the overall picture of what you will look like on your big day. You might have an idea of a hairstyle that you love, but you may totally change your mind once you see how it looks with your wedding dress.

Go natural. We recommend wearing as little makeup and products as you’re comfortable with. Some makeup such as foundation and concealer, or even a spray tan, can stain your wedding dress. We also advise wearing streak-free or clear deodorant to avoid any mishaps.

Wear your undergarments. Some bridal salons may sell them, or you might have to bring your own. Some gowns require a full corset, where others may be built in. Either way, you want to make sure your wedding dress will fit exactly how you plan to wear it the day of.

Bring a friend. If you need to bustle your dress, you’ll need someone to help you do so. Whether it’s your Mom or maid of honor, make sure someone knows how to bustle your gown. Check with your seamstress to see which fitting they need to attend.

Decide on your veil and accessories. If possible, try on veils, head pieces, and accessories while you are wearing your wedding dress. Capturing the whole ensemble beforehand will ensure there won’t be any surprises on your big day.

Relax. These fittings are all about you, so remember to enjoy yourself!

DIY Leftover Treat Boxes

April 22, 2016

They say that the smallest details make the longest lasting impressions. Send your guests home with a little something sweet, tucked neatly inside these adorably whimsical treat boxes – and they will most definitely be stopping by for more!

Treat boxes (we used gable boxes and take out boxes)

Pie slice box template
Scissors
8.5 x 11” cardstock
Hot glue gun & glue sticks
Bone folder
Full page label paper
Free treat labels

Make pie slice boxes out of cardstock using Martha Stewart’s template. We printed her template directly onto the cardstock at 100% for the box top and 90% for the box bottom. Then we cut out the border of each piece, used the bone folder along the dotted lines, and glued the boxes in place. You can embellish the boxes by adding borders or wrapping in pretty paper if you’re feeling fancy!

Print out the treat labels onto the full page label paper.

Cut out the labels along the gray lines, and pop onto pie and treat boxes.
